Plugins and updates
Plugins add features to Ledger Desk. They come from the Ledger Desk store and are bought, like your licence, on xssit.com. Plugins are part of the Standard and Premium editions.
The Plugins page
Settings → Plugins (Administrators and Developers) lists every plugin of the store: the ones your shop owns and the ones you can add. Filter with All, Owned, Not owned and On this computer. Each plugin shows its version, its price per month or year, a free trial when there is one, the Ledger Desk versions it runs on, and what changed in its newest version.
States
| State | What it means |
|---|---|
| Running | Owned, switched on and working on this computer. |
| Not downloaded | Owned, but its file is not on this computer yet. |
| Switched off | Owned and downloaded, but switched off for the shop. |
| Update available | A newer version of an owned plugin is in the store. |
| Not owned | Your licence does not include it. Buy it or try it. |
| Not for this version | It does not run on your version of Ledger Desk. |
| Added by hand | A plugin a Developer added from a file; it does not come from the store. |
Buttons
- Buy or Try it opens the store page of a plugin you do not own. After the purchase it appears as owned within minutes (or press Refresh).
- Download fetches an owned plugin. Its file is checked against the store's signature before it ever runs.
- Switch on and Switch off apply to the whole shop: every computer starts or stops the plugin by itself. A plugin that is switched off keeps its file, so it can be switched on again at once.
- Update downloads the newer version.
- Remove from this computer deletes the file of a plugin that is switched off or no longer owned.
Owned plugins that are switched on are downloaded by every computer of the shop automatically at sign-in. A plugin that is an add-on subscription shows when it renews or ends; when it ends, it stops. When the store can not be reached, the page shows the last list the server kept.
Adding a plugin from a file (Developers)
A Developer can add a plugin file by hand with Add plugin, for example one made just for your shop. Such a plugin runs only on that computer.
A plugin runs with the full rights of Ledger Desk on the computer: it can read and change everything the app can. Install only plugins from a source you trust.
App updates
- Ledger Desk checks for a new version when you sign in and every six hours. Check for updates in the command palette (Ctrl+K) asks at once.
- When one is ready you see what changed and choose Install, Later or Skip this version.
- A required update (Ledger Desk must be installed) can not be skipped: the server no longer works with the older version, so install it to go on.
- The installer is downloaded, checked against its signature (a file that does not match is deleted), then Ledger Desk closes, asking first about unsaved work, installs it and opens again.
- Your licence says until when new versions are included: see Updates included until on the Licence page. A version your licence does not cover is shown but not installed.
- When the server already refuses this computer as too old, the sign-in screen shows Update required and installs the update with Download and install, without signing in.
- Final versions (such as 1.0.4) get final updates; a beta version gets beta ones.
- Every computer updates itself. A server update can be booked with our team through a support ticket; the server stays in your care.
