Getting started

On this page

Ledger Desk has two parts: a server that keeps the data of the shop, and the desktop app on each counter computer. This page is the path from a new shop to the first ticket. Each step links to the page that explains it in full.

1. Our team deploys your server

You need a VPS (cloud server) and a domain name of your own. After you buy, open a support ticket from your account on xssit.com to book the deployment, whose fee depends on your plan. Our team deploys the server on your VPS and gives you its address (for example https://desk.yourshop.com) and the first account. Once the deployment is done, the VPS, the domain and the server are in your care: we are not responsible for them. See Purchase and setup.

2. Install the desktop app

Download the installer from your xssit.com account and run it on the counter computer. See Install the desktop app for the short version and The desktop app for everything about the app.

3. Accept the agreement and connect

The first start shows the user agreement: read it to the end, tick the box and press Continue. Then type the server address in the Server window and press Test connection.

4. Activate the licence

On the first computer of the shop the sign-in card asks for the licence key once. Every other computer uses it through the server. See Activate your licence.

5. Sign in

Sign in with the account our team gave you. You are asked to choose your own password right away. If your role requires two-step verification, you set it up with an authenticator app before going on.

6. Set up the shop

Do these once, in this order. Each one takes a few minutes:

  1. Company Profile: name, address, phone, email, logo, currency, time zone and the footers of your papers. See Company, taxes and numbering.
  2. Taxes & Numbering: your sales tax rates and a default tax group, then the number patterns of tickets and the other papers.
  3. Printers & Labels: the label size, the receipt paper and the look of your papers, then choose the printers of this computer and print a test page. See Printing.
  4. Agreement & Pickup: read the repair agreement, set the pickup and warranty days. See Repair agreement.
  5. Items & Services: the services and products you sell most, with cost and price. See Catalog.
  6. If you send emails or text messages, ask support to set up the mail server or check Messages.

7. Add your people

Under Users, create an account for each person and give them a role (Cashier, Technician, Manager...). Each new account gets a temporary password that is shown once. See Users, roles and security.

8. Install the other computers

On every further counter computer: install, accept the agreement, enter the server address and sign in. Each computer takes one seat of the licence at its first sign-in.

9. Your first ticket

Press + New Ticket at the top of the window, pick or add the customer, describe the device and the problem, add the services, and create it. Print the label, take the payment when the work is done. See Tickets and bills.

Want to practise first? Create a few test tickets. A Developer can later start over with Reset business data on the Backups page, which keeps your users, settings and catalog. See Backups and restore.
