Your files stay on your computer
Every tool of Mergi works on your computer. Your PDFs, pictures and certificates are never uploaded anywhere.
The only exceptions are ones you choose:
- Trusted timestamp when you sign: only a fingerprint of the signature goes to the timestamp server, never the file.
- Google fonts in Stamp: a font is downloaded from Google Fonts the first time you use it. Nothing of yours is sent.
- Links in a PDF open in your browser only after you confirm.
What is sent, and when
| What | When | What it contains |
|---|---|---|
| Usage and update reports | with the switch on (the default) | the app version, basic facts about the system and whether updates install |
| Licence check | with Premium | your licence key and an identifier of this computer |
| Premium prices | at start and every few hours | nothing about you or your files |
| Update check | with automatic checks on, or Check now | the app version |
Never your files, their contents, their names or your name.
Turn the reports off at any time: Settings › Privacy › Send usage and update reports. The switch is also on the welcome card of the first start.
Passwords
Passwords of protected files and of certificates are kept in memory only, for the session, so you are not asked twice. They are never written to disk.
Where Mergi keeps its settings
In %APPDATA%\Mergi: your settings, the list of recent files and the licence record. Downloaded updates and Google fonts are kept in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Mergi.
